AWS Equivalent

Origins and History

Azure Static Web Apps was announced at Build 2020 in May 2020 and reached general availability on May 12, 2021. The service was designed to address the growing adoption of JavaScript frontend frameworks and JAMstack architecture patterns. The Standard tier with additional features launched alongside GA. Enterprise-grade features including private endpoints and SLA-backed availability were added in 2022. Support for additional frameworks including Next.js hybrid rendering, Nuxt 3, and SvelteKit was progressively added through 2022-2023. The database connections feature for direct integration with Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and MySQL was introduced in 2023.
