Origins and History

Novu was founded in 2021 by Dima Grossman and Tomer Barnea. The project was initially called Notifire before being renamed to Novu. The core is licensed under the MIT License, with separately licensed enterprise packages. Novu participated in Y Combinator and has raised venture funding to support development. The project has accumulated over 40,000 GitHub stars, making it one of the most popular open-source notification frameworks. Novu 2.0, released in October 2024, built the platform around the Novu Framework SDK for defining notification workflows as code.
